The Many Uses of Peppermint and Peppermint Oil

There are so many health perks from Peppermint. Peppermint offers way more than a cool blast of flavor in gum or toothpaste! Read on for over a dozen uses!

Mice and Peppermint OilThe critters are gearing up for this upcoming, Autumn season – its time to think about keeping the mice out of the house and car! For many years, we have used PEPPERMINT OIL very successfully to deter these little guys – a cotton ball saturated with peppermint oil and place strategically where they may come in or in your engine to deter them from nesting. You can also put some in a spray bottle (dilute with water) and spray along the edges of your home.

Upset Stomach and Indigestion
If you have an upset stomach due to illness or indigestion, drinking a small cup of peppermint tea or warm water containing a few drops of peppermint essential oil will help ease discomfort.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
Peppermint oil safely helps alleviate symptoms of IBS. Research has shown that it’s effective in children and adults like, with one study showing a 50% reduction in “total irritable bowel syndrome score” among 75 % of test patients

Hay Fever
The smell of peppermint can help clear a stuffy nose associated with hay fever. Extracts from peppermint leaves (think tea) are also thought to inhibit the release of histamine, the major cause of inflammatory allergy symptoms.

The aroma of peppermint has been shown to increase alertness and enhance memory, so keep a small bottle of essential oil handy for long drives or late days at the office.

Dental Cavities and Bad Breath
Peppermint oil has been proven to work better than the mouthwash chemical chlorohexidine in inhibiting the formation of dental cavities.
